LeAnne and I were looking for something to do in November and originally thought about going to Spain or Italy. We figured it would be cheaper as it's the off-season but I couldn't find any real deals. I remembered some friends of ours had honeymooned in Belize so I started to do some research. Quickly I learned that Belize has a ton of cool stuff to offer. We were able to go snorkeling, have great meals, tour the jungle and ancient Mayan ruins plus get a fair amount of drinking in.
I
called a travel agency in our local paper and they booked us into Captain
Morgan's Retreat on Ambergris
Caye. Not knowing anything about the property, I started doing
research on-line (www.ambergriscaye.com
is a great place to learn about the island). To my dismay I saw some
negative reviews about the resort. So I started e-mailing people who
had been there recently to get their opinion. Much to my relief
everyone I e-mailed responded and they all had great things to say about
the place. We really enjoyed staying there as well. The
atmosphere was terrific, the restaurant was great and the staff was very
friendly and accommodating.
In fact, one guy (James a.k.a. Jaime') liked Captain Morgan's so much that he and his wife booked a second trip there (coincidentally the same week as ours). When he discovered that we were going to be there at the same time, he mentioned that he wanted to do something and it "required another couple". Uh oh. Captain Morgan's was where Fox's Temptation Island was filmed. What strange and perverted ideas did this guy have? It turned out he wanted us to go in on a boat charter and a second couple would make the trip a lot cheaper. We took him up on it and had a terrific time (even if the girls caught all the fish).
There are a lot of pictures. If you want, you can simply go to the main "day" pages to get a gist of what happened. However, each day has sub-pages with the rest of the pictures. If you have the time, the curiosity or the bandwidth you really should check them out.
All photos were taken with my Canon S200 Digital Elph. I used the WP-DC600 underwater case for the, duh, underwater photos.
